It’s late and we’re out on the veranda of the Hotel Nacional, with a bottle on the table, nearly empty. We got waves today here in town – nothing to write home about, but it was still surf. Now we’re watching tourists come and go, stumble and stagger at times, and Roark produces two cigars with the famous mark of my neighbor’s operation. I’ve never been a smoker but the very finest of anything, I figure, is worth a try.
